I want to move to Miami when I'm 18. Is this a good idea? Why or why not?

I want to move to Miami, Florida. I currently live in a small city in Washington on the border between Oregon and Washington. It rains so much here and I'm tired of it. I want to go somewhere warmer, on the coast, like Miami. Something about it draws me there. I want to work as a marine Biologist and study Manatees or an Animal cop. I told my stepdad about what I wanted and he said "Don't go. You won't survive. There's so many hurricanes there." I was like "I'll be fine." and he said "Whatever, when you have a 10ft crocodile crawling on your street, don't call me" Do you think moving to Miami would be a good idea?
