What kind of attorney?
Ok, my hubby and I gave this guy (our landlord) $1300 before moving in this place. $650 rent and $650 deposit. We did sign a lease. We knew it needed repairs, but they were minor. We walked this place four times to check everything needed. The landlord already has an a/c unit, it just needs to be hooked up. The duct work is in place. Anyway, it needs covers for the outlets, a new breaker and the a/c done. Well, when we moved in, not only has he not done anything to fix any of the issues I listed, he tore up one of the bathrooms and there is a huge hole in the floor under the sink. Half the house has no electricity (still) and no water (still). The stove lights do not come on, there are no temp. gages and the burners do not light up on the stove or in the oven. (It's electric). The floor has a/c vent holes uncovered and you can see between the door panels and the wall that leads outside from the living room. The water is luke warm at best, and the hot water heater doesn't work. The guy refuses to work on the house, though he's promised us time and time again he will fix things. My kids sleep in the dining room on their mattresses. It's bad and it needs fixed. I live in Florida and he is blowing off a statute and I know I can cue him for my money back. My kids and I have been sick since we moved in. I haven't listed everything, but these are the major things, the things to make it safer to live there. We gave notice to our previous landlord and had no choice thinking this place was going to be done as promised. We don't have extra money to shell out at a hotel or anything. I have photo's of everything. So, what kind of Lawyer do I consult and do you have any advice as to anything else I can do? I live in Manatee County, Florida. Thanks so much.
